Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
